TGIF! Lunch Round-Up for 1/21-1/25

Happy Friday, everyone! We had an extremely busy week, so I didn’t do much with Jack’s snacks. Each day, he went with a banana or veggie chips or those potato-lentil curls from Trader Joe’s. I did, however, keep up with his lunches:

Sunday night, I forgot that the next day was MLK Day and that there was no school, so Johnny got to take this lunch that was originally intended for Jack, packed in our new Planetbox:

The entree was a kale, tomato and carrot salad (the kale was grown in our backyard!) with ranch dressing in the little container. There were also salami and cheddar fold-ups, Pirate Booty, fresh fruit, and fruit snacks as a treat. Johnny said his lunch was the talk of the town; I hope he told everyone that this was for Jack, so that his coworkers don’t think I go around making heart-shaped carrots and Pokemon-skewered food for a grown man. Ha!

Tuesday’s lunch, also in the Planetbox, was a ham and cheese sandwich, cut into quarters and threaded onto paper umbrellas. Jack got me a package of those umbrellas for Christmas — apparently, he told Johnny that he knew the perfect thing to get me, asked to go to the grocery store, and, when he got there, made a beeline for the umbrellas and said, “I have to get this for Mommy. She will have SO much fun making lunches with these.” He also got me some sword-shaped toothpicks on that trip. It was such a sweet story, and on Christmas morning, his whole face just lit up in anticipation of me opening this package. So, of course, I had to use them. He also got orange wedges, pretzels, tomatoes and carrots, and a small handful of jellybeans.

Wednesday, we went with our trusty EasyLunchbox. I had one Kings Hawaiian hot dog bun rolling around the freezer, so I decided to make a peanut butter and banana sub with it. Unusual, I know, but Jack loved it. I also put cucumber hearts and blueberries in the main compartment, housed in silicone muffin cups, then rounded out the lunch with tangerine wedges and Pirate Booty. (What can I say, we are on a Pirate Booty kick lately! I seriously bought nearly 20 bags when they were BOGO at the store.)

Thursday, I packed a heart-shaped PB&J with a cute Valentine’s stamp on it (I saw on Pinterest that you could take a new, clean rubber stamp, dip it in the tiniest amount of gel food coloring, and use it as a food stamp — genius!), tomatoes on those sword toothpicks Jack got for me, apple slices, roast beef on Valentine’s Day toothpicks, and one single pretzel treat.

Jack’s buying lunch today, but Derek’s staying at preschool for lunch, so I packed this for him:

Dinosaur Nutella and homemade strawberry jam sandwiches, tomatoes on Pokemon picks, baby carrots, potato and lentil curls, homegrown oranges, and one Hershey’s Kiss.

Have wonderful weekends, all!

    • Thank you, Tina! I hope you like Pirate Booty. Most people do, but recently a friend of mine said she thought the white cheddar variety that I always buy was tasteless. It reminds me of those snacks I always ate in Taiwan — they were also puffy and crunchy. Usually they had some sort of more Asian flavor — a little salty, a little sweet, tasted a tiny bit like curry. Delicious!
